Post Chemical Peel: What to Avoid for Best Results

Chemical Peels are a great way to treat fine lines and wrinkles, brown age spots, melasma, acne, mild scars and skin tone and texture. It’s best to do a series of chemical peels, one month apart, for optimal results. We also do not recommend having a chemical peel during the summer months. The treatments will make your skin glow, however, there are things to avoid post peel that are very important.

  1. Patient Before and After 3 Chemical Peels

Avoid direct sun exposure. It’s imperative to use a broad spectrum SPF 30 and higher sunscreen for UV protection. In addition, consider wearing a hat with a wide brim to further protect facial skin.

  2. Do not use a tanning bed for at least two weeks post-procedure.
  3. Stay as cool as possible. Overheating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
  4. Avoid a hot shower spray, hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.
  5. Do not go swimming.
  6. Avoid activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  7. Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
  8. Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
  9. Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.
  10. Do not to apply makeup the day of the treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight
  11. Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day, and it can applied more frequently for controlling the appearance of flaking.
  12. It is important to delay the usage of retinol and alpha hydroxy products for a week post-procedure, as they may cause irritation.
  13. Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing or use depilatories for at least one week.
